چکیده
This research examines the effects of South prevailing wind on Land Surface Temperature (LST) retrieved from Earth Observation (EO) Satellites at 11 gas flaring sites in Rivers State, Niger Delta region, Nigeria. 7 Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) and 18 Enhanced Plus (ETM+) 17/01/1986 to 08/03/2013 with < % cloud contamination were considered. All are located within a single scene (Path 188, Row 057). The atmospherically corrected reflectance was used for classification 4 land cover (LC) types each site. emissivity (ε) site is estimated by using standard values determined LC Look Up Table (LUT). surface-leaving radiance (Lλ) computed thermal band 6 (High gain) values. Planck equation inverted calibration constants derive LST. Geospatial analysis LST results ArcGIS show ranges all sites. For both sensors flare stack sources highest compared other locations Wind directions speeds data acquisitions dates applied assessing their it. that Eleme I II, Onne, p-values showed no statistically significant relationships between δLST different (δLSTNE, δLSTNS δLSTNW) existed. Obigbo site, direction (South) acquisition date combined generate noticeable impact towards North-East North-West directions. Alua, Bonny, Chokocho, Rukpokwu, Umurolu Sara sites, p-value obtained 3 relationships; therefore, producing circle footprint. Umudioga only δLSTN versus δLSTW significant, causing effect direction. Based these results, it can be concluded volume rate burning gas, speed time satellite overpass major factors determine influence Delta.

This study was conducted to reveal the impact of rural-urban migration on broiler production in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Data were collected from 795 household heads and farmers/managers/supervisors of 25 selected broiler farms in the study area. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis was utilized to analyze the data. Able bodied young men constituted most of the rura...
متن کاملImpact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature
The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...

Is living in a gas-flaring host community associated with being hypertensive? Evidence from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria
Background Researchers have linked gas flaring to climate change, the hastening of the epidemiological transition and an upsurge in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases. We sought to determine if a relationship exists between residing in a gas-flaring host community and hypertension. Methods We conducted an analytical cross-sectional household survey among residents of 600 households i...
متن کاملTragedy of Commons: Analysis of Oil Spillage, Gas Flaring and Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta of Nigeria
The hue and cry about the stark despoliation of the Niger Delta has been ongoing; and the issues at stake have centered mostly on the gross and glaring underdevelopment in the area despite the vast resources that have accrued to the Nigerian state from the region. Perhaps the most disturbing, is that oil exploration and exploitation in the Niger Delta is carried out without regard to internatio...
